Drugs, the scene and the 2 deaths at Electric Zoo

I decided to write a blog about the recent deaths that took place in NYC this past Labor Day weekend at the Electric Zoo festival. I’ve been in the rave scene among a host of other counter culture scenes involving electronic music since 1997. This has been something that has always been a challenge for any music scene and just for society in general. After reading a recent article in the NY Times i was inspired to give my 2 cents considering everything that I’ve seen with not only them music scene but also just from life in general. When these events occur a lot of of finger pointing tends to happen. A lot of blaming, a lot of anger along with just plain bad press. You see whenever any regular drug overdose just happens in any major metropolitan city it doesn’t make the news. Certainly not headline material if some 19 year old over doses on whatever or just takes too much shit but when it happens at a music event, but more or a less a “rave” then its national coverage. It then becomes actually becomes a story. People over dose on drugs all the time. This last year for me I’ve lost 3 friends of mine from drug over doses. 2 of them were heron and one of them was from meth and probably a series of other things that caused her death. However none of these deaths ever made the news. Perhaps the obituary with a very discreet description that doesn’t mention the word “overdose” or “heroin” out of respect for the family. There is no editorial about who’s to blame, no Dateline interviews if we should blame someone else for this tragedy¬†etc because its not a story. For years and years really ever since the 90s when underground raves became the target of news outlets looking for the juicy story on how to “save the children” from these “drug dens” it was always a story to that seemed to try and hurt the scene and the entire music industry that goes along with it. It was always the same shit. I remember back when I lived in Dallas and when the channel 5 news affiliate snuck into a warehouse rave with a hidden night camera showing scenes of teenagers doing ecstasy, selling drugs along with dancing and having a good time. All with the...

OpenStack is an open source cloud computing operating system. See What Exactly is the Cloud if you’re unsure of what cloud computing is but its basically what controls things like your PS3 online services, Comcast delivery, Rackspace IT environments, runs bestbuy.com, and also for private clouds. This is a video I did for Rackspace that explains what OpenStack...
